Big Architects Miami Beach Convention Center

This video is a proposal for Bjarke Ingles, BIG Architects LLC, a company that is reinventing the design industry today, is proposing the redesign for the conventional area of 17th Street and Washington Ave on Miami Beach. The video goes over the initial design they are proposing for the area. They are proposing a convention center square. The square in the video will show the Museum and convention center proposal and how it relates to the surrounding context. There are proposals for retail areas along Washington Ave and some residential apartments located on the edge of 17th street.  The structure integrates into the landscape, refining areas for parking and services rendered.

The video seems well put together but more importantly the project itself is needed. AS a resident of miami beach I can comfortably say that there is an initial disconnect between the Jackie Gleason theatre and the Convention Center that is located directly south of it on the same block. After watching the video I can see the connections between the urban fabric that they are incumbently targeting and the social pedestrian key point they are creating. Look closely at the organization of spaces and services that render the program and the function together. I look forward to the project becoming a reality.

Big Architets isn’t the only renowned architectural firm out there, there are other proposals. Although Big Architects proposal was my favorite, check oth these others.

OMA Firm – OMA is working alongside property developers Tishman and UIA, architects TVSdesign and landscape architects MMVA and Raymond Jungles, who together form a team called South Beach ACE.
